Ed - Thanks. I am going to fax them my tobacco data today. I was interested in the following from Beasley's State of the State address:

With their unlimited resources for lobbying and advertising, the video-poker industry is mounting an assault on the senses and sensibilities of the people of South Carolina. You've seen the ads with the all-American faces.

The industry is fighting back with ads. Maybe they should have some ads with a grandmother gasping for breath, dragging around oxygen bottles with a hose up her nose, begging her anguished granddaughter to get her another cigarette. The tag line: "Brought to you by Gov. Beasley and the South Carolina Tobacco Board."

Ed: I have been checking on the video poker lobby today. There is a group of pages on the legislative website dealing with lobbyists. Here is the link:

lpitr.state.sc.us

Following are the organization and their registered lobbyists:

SC COIN OPERATORS ASSOCIATION
PO BOX 93
DARLINGTON, SC 29532
803-393-4861
LOBBYISTS: ALLEN, FRED E., DRAKE, DWIGHT F., TERRY, MYRON K.

SC VIDEO GAMING ASSN
1304 N OCEAN BLVD
MYRTLE BEACH, SC 29577
803-448-9265
LOBBYIST: DUDLEY, THOMAS E. III

SC VIDEO MALL ASSN
1429 SAVANNAH HWY
CHARLESTON, SC 29407
803-766-9814
LOBBYIST: GUNN, MICHAEL E.

There is also a page listing lobbyists by name and the various groups they represent. The good news is most of these guys appear to be real heavyweights, judging by their client list. The bad news is, I don't know how much mileage we'll get out of the tobacco issue. Most of these guys also represent tobacco interests. It may be something of a conflict of interest for these guys.
