I certainly wish the optimism in that post was the future. My own is much, much more dystopian. The rapidly rising levels of ethnic nationalism in major European countries and the US; the concomitant demonizing of the other; tribalizing; a possible trade war; increasing tensions in the ME around Iran; and so forth. Not to speak of the ominous weather conditions following the collective failure to address climate change. In all that, I find myself sympathetic to arguments that this is more like that late 20s, early 30s.
