Pete, i don't expect too much from China as long as the political system is stable. And i won't expect nothing when the political system becomes unstable. But then..
So China is looooong-term, maybe too long for me.
I've been there twice as a consultant for a german company and, by accident, met a chinese internet-user (a year ago). If my memory serves me right he said:
- the only ISP is federal
- expect to be examined and closely monitored by the secret service when you apply for an internet account
- fill out dozens of useless forms
- pay a fee that equals the average monthly income
- a low end pc costs around 10 times annual average income
- do not visit american or european websites other than strictly business-related
- all downloads are monitored
He used it for business emails, nothing else.

Maybe things have already changed, what do i know? Anyway, Wallstreet is not very impressed so far. Down 4.3%
