You're welcome. I'm similar but consider myself more a libertarian but independent would probably be better if it was a real party.
I've considered myself an independent for the last 10-15 years - fiscally conservative but more liberal socially.
Where I greatly differ from most liberals and independents is I am a staunch believer in personal responsibility. Too many criminals being let go in CA just because prisons are over crowded and under represented by Asian Indians, Chinese and white Europeans....

Nobody forced me to abuse alcohol or tobacco so it was up to me to quit, not society... but I'd sure be in favor of making the alcohol industry pay more in taxes to match what that tobacco industry pays to make up for some of the damage it profits from.

Also, I want everyone to be treated equally and have equal opportunity but I strongly believe we've done more harm than good with all the affirmative action and other programs.

And most government, including the huge MIA that Ike warned of, is corrupt due to the money involved so trying to limit the size is the best way to limit corruption.

I've come to the belief that health care is like fire and crime prevention... something society should pay for not individuals or companies via "insurance" with their huge profits and overhead to run... and how the hell do you buy insurance against dying which we can't escape yet we pay through the nose for the cost of the process of dying. You buy insurance for things you take steps to avoid such as fires or car wrecks.... If you are super wealthy, then you can always buy better care just as you can buy your own private security.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, nice chatting and have a great weekend!
