Gene, Sure and all
With the current softening of the Canadian Dollar, American Assets are value added. That is to say if the share price were to hold at a constant price Canadians are actually gaining. For Canadians this company holds extra value in that it is RRSP eligible. Because of maximum foreign content rules, Canadians are allowed to hold only a certain percentage of their RRSP's in foriegn assets. However because SGGNF head office is in Canada, even though their business is largely in other countries this qualifies them. I currently hold it in both my RRSP and investment accounts.

The future holds some precarious times for the Lonnie. The bank of Canada looks as though it is willing to let interest rates ride as opposed to rasing them to prop up the dollar, as they have done in the past. This is likely the correct move considering the economy of the country, outlook of inflation etc., but it will have a price in the form of lower exchange rates vs the US dollar. The other matter which I belive could have an even greater effect on the stability of the Lonnie is the next referendum. Quebec is not likely that far away from another Provincial Election, shortly followed by a referendum. Holding US assets will give Canadians some stability, in what should be a stormy period north of the border.

Just something to think about.
