I don't think that an impeachment is on the horizon yet. So far, we don't have an impeachable offenses. But ... There is increasing concern that all of these troubles are overwhelming the presidency to the point that the office is not as efficient as it could be. We wonder also if the president vis a vis congress will be effected. There are some in congress, that don't want to back IMF.

I have been curious about our news services. Television is not reporting much about Asia. The main stories today are Clinton and Cuba.

regards
pete

Impeachment is supposed to be for "high crimes and misdemeanors"--presumably affecting the body politic.

I would say that if there should be impeachment proceedings it would be a very serious matter. That is, if such proceedings went forward it would indicate a terminal psychosis at work in the United States. I mean, here is a world full --still, though we hardly think about it-- nuclear weapons that can kill fifteen million people in a few seconds. I mean just one of them. One bomb. And here is the attention of the world focussed on whether one adult male did or did not kiss or fondle one adult female. Elaborated, of course, as to whether that adult male and other adult males may have tried to conceal this event.

Meantime, I am sure that on the playgrounds of the United States elementary schools there are numerous questions of who tripped of whom and who stole whose marbles that might profitably occupy the time of the Supreme Court.

For comparison: the Emperor Augustus, first emperor of the Roman Empire and one of the great rulers in history, regularly deflowered twelve-year-old girls, whom his wife collaborated in procuring for him.

But one has to admit that it is entirely likely that such senior Republican Senators as Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond have probably not recently been guilty of groping attractive young women.
