I don’t think so, the world has moved away from socialism, but the vast majority of rich nations have more social infrastructure to take care of less capable members of society, yet allow capitalist profit. I think this is what the left are about. The answer is not to go back 75 years, but , rather, a mix of these systems adopted by most of the world including communist China. The current infrastructure is such that in America one is dead without a job, pretty much. In other countries this is not the case. The lack of the job is not necessarily the fault of that person. For example, they can lose an ability to work, but not qualify for any government assistance. One example is being blind - with vision between 20/100 (best corrected) and 20/200 you cannot drive or read, but the government considers you blind at 20/200 or worse. You can ask a Christian church, but you are really unable to go there and ask, because you are blind. So in America you are thrown out on the street and die. In other countries with social infrastructure you will get a dog and some kind of assisted living. Don’t get into an accident that leaves you blind don’t get a heart attack the list goes on and on.
