No, Jim, I don't think you understand. Starr will FORCE her to testify--he has that power. Since he will offer her immunity, she CANNOT refuse to testify before his grand jury. If she does, he will throw her in jail UNTIL she does. And she cannot take the fifth. The independent prosecutor has an enormous amount of power.

I think a man who over a number of years has committed felonies and lied about them, starting with Whitewater, is guilty of serious crimes, so I think we just disagree on this.

I want to know more about Linda Tripp, as well. She felt her civil service job was in danger, and was trying to protect herself, and that's all I know for sure.

If she sticks to her story, Starr can't do much to her other than try to scare her.

And he'd look an awful ass if he really did throw her in jail. A pity she didn't pay more attention to Perry Mason. He always advised his clients to keep their mouths shut no matter what.

jim:

So she tries your scenario and then Starr gets witnesses to her comings and goings at odd hours (some after midnight) at the White House when she doesn't even work there anymore (she works at the Pentagon now). And they also get the written logs of when she came and went. . . and then they ask her to explain just why she was at the White House between 11:33 pm and 3:21 am on such and such a date. If she lies she is damned and the president will go down as well as her.
