Also there is a track all the old TV shows used to establish that they are in town. It is the sound of horns honking. If you heard it you'd recognize it in a minute.

Probably works in NYC but in 99% of the country people almost never honk their horns.

I remember a scene in the Andy Griffith show where Andy and Barney are sitting in front of the court house. In the background you can hear the honking. In a town like Mayberry people honk the horn when they buy the car and never again.

It sounds to me like the Frasier shows have a laugh track to supplement the real thing. It's used in a much more realistic fashion and isn't as obnoxious as Friends. That track just roars loudly at nearly every line one of the stars utter. There's no subtlety about it.... just loud and offensive.
