The term "quiet period" is referred to often on various SI threads.
There probably is a technical/legal definition, but it seems most often to be associated with significant, forthcoming events.
For example, if a company were negotiating a merger, or a sale of a substantial portion of its assets, or the acquisition of major new financing. Most anything which a reasonable person might believe would have an notable impact on the business (and, hence, on the company's stock price). George
