As the President says, " I Feel Your Pain! ". You, of course, are correct. For any one using this new hi-tech power, but travelling their own path, the road suddenly can become difficult.

My story is a little different, but you will see a 'mirror'

When I originally decided to 'upgrade' my system, I carefully examind all of the current offerings. I wasn't crazy about the problems that windows has with its' ability to 'lock-up' and ruin your day, so i opted for Windowns for Workstations. My system was delivered with the current 3.51 version. I was impressed with the ability to recover from problems that a lesser operating system (W95) couldn't. Pretty happy boy, I'll tell you. This time I had made the 'right decision' and all of that analysis really paid off, --- er, so I thought! I am a trackball user, and Logitech had released a new 'laser' trackball, using a laser and a ball with 'dots' on it to detect motion as opposed to the little rollers. "Cool", I thought as I unpackaged the trackball. Never mind that NT wasn't listed, like how different could it be? Well, plenty different. Doesn't work on NT, and they don't intend to write the driver. So, instead of a 3 button device, I have to use it as a default mouse. POOP! I find that my printer driver doesn't work properly (HP 310C) and I can't find one to work.

So this will be an easy fix, I'll just load WIN95, and that will take care of the 'bleeding' edge problem. ER - Not So Fast! I check with Gateway and find that since I ordered NT WS, I got one type of motherboard, if I had ordered W95, I would have gotten a different one. (You mean that there are hardware differences?, YOU BETCHA!) Well that popped the 'peeper open'! The use the same CPU don't they? YEP! Well then? Appearently some of the support stuff was different, at that time at least. Gateway was real good, and helped me to get the required patches for W95 to handle the hardware properly. Next I was evaluating that 400K PC Dish, and found that it won't connect to any form of NT! POOP! Additionally, the software had not been written to support IE above 3.02! (Not planning to write it either! Their solution was to have 2 versions loaded and switch between them! POOP and double POOP!

I guess it points to the fact that I system can really be stable if it only runs in the idle loop! How about as a door stop?

I have come to realize that we on the edge of technology want the high power support, but our numbers are so small that the producers see not enough money to code for us!

So there you are, and here I am - writing about it!
