AMD's process is more advanced than Intel's , but it is also employed to manufacture the DEC Alpha (which Samsung is manufacturing). So, it is not untried.

It was Intel's plan to kill the Socket 7 before the end of 97. However, Slot 1 only accounted for MUCH less than half the PCs sold by that time. Why is that?

Talking about obsolete, what is Slot 2? Isn't Intel planning on Slot 1's obsolesence already? And don't give me that overdrive bull, I am still waiting for one for my PPro PC.
