How exactly does Ms Francis suggest they deal with BC ?

So much pundit talk.. as hot as Ottawa air to me...

Separation as an independent country ? HUGE no.. Joining the US is the only option after confederation ... The ONLY one...

Step one is for Alberta to demand the immediate construction of the TMX pipeline and the scrapping of Bills C-48 and C-69. No delays.

This is new ? Pretty sure I, you, and a host of others have been saying this for a long time... and it is a linchpin for leverage.... Speak to BC whom some appear to believe would magically change its position...

Some say such a referendum won’t force renegotiation, but it cannot be ignored either. Referenda have provided Quebec with leverage.

She well knows Quebec had leverage from the get go... It was part of the signing bonus for 1867... Referenda are just the manifestation of that.. a symptom if you will... I was sorry QC did not vote to separate... things would have been in balance... but QC really did not want to go... They called a bluff...

Again without pipes/tidewater... AB needs BC.. who is a HUGE PROBLEM now.. some point to the folks in the interior.. Sure.. I'll bite.. but they are not the political force that the coast is..BC's coast is to BC as ON/QC is to Canada... They are funny birds those guys.. they preach global climate change yet have no compunction $hitting in ebveryone else's back yard... Good luck making that deal...

Alberta should, as Quebec did, take control from the federal government of all tax collection, border control, policing and immigration in return for lower taxes.

I think all provinces should do that...

I posted long ago we should head to the same goal as the EU from the opposite direction...

Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba should warn the Trudeau government that punitive carbon taxes on provinces unwilling to go along with their draconian climate change policy, won’t be obeyed. This is in their “national interest” and could cost as much as $35 billion a year, bankrupting many of western Canada’s industries and farms. Ontario’s too.

Yeah Ontario is working on that.. plus... revelations this week on the inefficacy of green power gen is possibly helping

Then Alberta must take steps toward autonomy: Withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan, subsidized heavily by the province due to its high incomes and youthful demographics. Quebec did this in 1966. If Alberta withdrew, its workers and employers would pay half the CPP premiums they now pay and the rest of Canada would have to pay at least 10 per cent more. Alberta would then get tens of billions from its share of the $440-billion CPP fund to invest in new projects.

I didn't consider that.. A great point.. Caisse des Depot is doing fine...

Next, Alberta must sponsor two projects, initiated by First Nations: One carrying oil by rail or pipeline from the oilsands to Valdez and another carrying oil by pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia, then Alaska. Both projects would follow routes pre-approved by local First Nations, bypassing Ottawa’s meddling completely. Then Alberta must work with Manitoba to establish a pipeline and oil port in Churchill to ship oil to the east coast or Europe. All projects are viable that Alberta and investors could finance.

ummm!!! I do believe it is BC that is meddling... Mr. Trudeau approved TM finally... but now that he is sleeping with Mr. Singh.. I would not hold my breath... unless the C's support him.. that would be funny actually... bu the right thing...

FARK!!! how many times have I mentioned Churchill and including Manitoba.. while others thought Wexit with SK/AB and BC would somehow be like Lucky Charms ? You know.. Magically delicious... Geez man !

Alberta is captive to a system that economically strangles and disenfranchises its enterprising people even though it is, on its own, the fourth largest oil producer in the world — after the U.S., Russia and Saudi Arabia. Its economy is the same size as Quebec’s, and combined with Saskatchewan is nearly 20 per cent bigger. It is Canada’s single engine of economic growth now and in the future.

AND THEY STILL NEED BC for TIDEWATER.. I say AGAIN.. go for Churchill .. it is something doable... and the more success AB has... the more leverage they have...

Maybe I should have said yawn instead of gas...

Ms Francis (who I recognize as very bright and I generally like what she has to say.. and do not disagree with this spiel... ).. would have done a lot better to have not written this for Nov 4.. but say Sep 4 ?

Finally, the Tories should table in Parliament the following for approval which was approved on behalf of Quebec: “That this House recognize that Alberta and Saskatchewan form a nation within a united Canada.”

again.. you still need tidewater..

Also as louel has mentioned there is imbalance in the electoral districts (seats...) with AB having a low number per capita... He said it differently but same result.. there should be a a lot less discretion in setting electoral districts (federally I am speaking of course... ) I can see discretion for the three maritime provinces.. they are tiny.. but as I have already posted QC should be ashamed to be on the federal dole...
