<<Deliberate purely human constructs.>>

I agree. The "truth" of the myth has been obscured by man's conscious additions and replacements and now the the old myths are ineffectual. One of the problems in declaring the need for a new myth, though, is that this is not something we are able to "consciously" create, even knowing we're without- it has to arise from the subconscious-a group effort and we're not terribly group-oriented nowadays--and reflect where we are now--not where we were. There is no way for jg's and Alexa's idea of a common morality to replace the myths; all that would be is another conscious invention-a belief system created in some either democratic or autocratic way, implemented by some and imposed on others. So here we are-some still struggling to make the old myths meaningful by carrying on with the trappings. (going to church on Sunday?)or some, just taking care of self and never having any contact with the universal ideas of man. We need new rituals!

I loved the image of the truth having to go through the distorted glass twice.
