Good question, but I thought I indicated my feelings about that in my original note. Let me try again.

At the time of the President's deposition, Miss Lewinsky herself had publically denied the affair in her own deposition. Now a gentleman, not a 90's kind of guy, but a gentleman has a dilemma. Does he acknowledge a relationship and assalt a "good woman's" cgaracter or does he take the heat. If all this supposition is true, then I choose to believe the President was thus forced to deny it himself.

Yes, I do believe that a gentleman will always protect a woman's reputation. Very victorian of me I guess.

Again, just imagine the uproar if he had said he did have an affair with her, while she was denying it! He would be dammed for destroying her reputation and good character! And, imagine the additional uproar if she continued to deny it even after such a statement on his part.

Your comment about the President being legally obligated to tell the truth about the affair is something I differ with entirely. I think he was between a rock and a hard place and chose to lie about it. I would hope I would do the same under the same circumstances. As someone with differing political views that the President you are entitled to gloat about his predicament, but please don't try to tell me you are morally outraged!

Do I want our President to lie? Why break a trend? I would guess that we have been lied to by just about every one we know. Family members included. Most of the time I imagine these were intended for my own good. Those are what I call "little lies". I tell them. But I guess you don't. All lies must be equal to you I guess.

Other laws I think it is ok to break.
I think it is probably ok to:
spit on the sidewalk
have sex with my wife on Sunday
remove the tag from my pillow
jay walk across an empty street
protest against segregation (I broke the law, I marched with Dr. King)
And lots more, but you probably get my drift.
