IWF ? @IWF Many #millennials enjoy their juice bars, avocado toast and spin classes but continue to bemoan the lack of American prosperity. What do they think prosperity looks like? #IWecon #prosperity #BetterOffNow bit.ly

Perhaps they'd have more of that prosperity stuff if they made their own juice and toast and spun at home.

A long time ago I knew this guy who would bemoan his credit card debt

and then he would take his less than 2 miles from home to work via taxi practically every day.

Yes, bus was available to him at a fraction of the price.

And as he complained, he would be sipping his capp from Starbucks.

I tried to help, give advice, talked to him about money management (in a nice way) - but he couldn't learn.

Damn - if something is around 2 miles away (we're talking NYC), I'd have a very short debate with myself whether to take public transit or walk; expensive taxi would be furthest from my mind - and usually the walking wins.

Well, you guys here know me - when I was on my own at one point in my life I was eating cheap store bought hotdogs and day old bread and whatever was in the expired bargain bin; never even considered looking into food stamps. Saved and learned to get ahead, and worked my way up. While I suppose I could have done a lot more, I did give back, not enough though I'll admit, to my parents, RIP now (my excuse: it was hard for them to accept anything from me). Thankfully my kids appreciate and understand these things and understand what is life and what is a luxury and how to mange finances, even credit cards whose simple concept flies over many heads - "never buy more than you can pay off every month" and "live within or better yet below your means".

Wow what a post - does this mean I was... triggered? :-)
