Considering TSLA probably doesn't have a clue as to how they are going to make money, (other than by cooking the books), no it is not worth the market cap. Once you add in the debt, it is even worse.

I am not surprised that the shorts decided to lay into the stock, but if I could have ever gotten a reasonable borrow, I would have never shorted it for more than a day trade. You just don't know what Musk might pull on you from one day to the next and since the regulators let him off so easily, he has no incentive not to lie. He is margined up on bis insider stock so if he doesn't lie, he could get wiped out.on forced liquidation. (the one way he can sell large amounts of stock without breaking the rules)

TSLA is one for the text books one day.

The value of Tesla over most of the others that have smaller market caps... I see is the "big data" of all those cars accumulating sensor info for self driving mode.

That may be a fleeting competitive advantage.

Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative is a consortium ( MOBI) of mostly automotive companies which are working to share their collective data for AI research. MOBI currently includes BMW, GM, Ford, Honda and Renault along with major component suppliers such as Bosch, Denso and ZF.

One of several blockchain companies in the forefront of this is Ocean Protocol. There is a 5 minute video (upper right in the Ocean link) which briefly explains how they intend to connect data providers with AI researchers in a decentralized and yet secure environment.

Although autonomous automotive applications are one obvious application, the same need exists in many other areas (such as healthcare). Sharing the vast amount of healthcare data (for medical device and pharma research) currently locked up in provider silos, privately and securely, would greatly accelerate AI research in healthcare.
