Health (heart) problems ... Just for what it’s worth ...

My wife’s sister had 3 Dobies (American line). On average they made it to approximately 10 years or a little less with a lot of (rather expensive) medical support in the final two years. They just put down their last one a couple of months ago after spending a small fortune on vets and medication. Major cause from what I understand: Heart issues / water / fluid retention. I can ask for more details if you are interested.

The bottom line (for me): There is no so called “pure bread” without some well documented health issues. Worrying about it makes no sense except for the only known to me preventive actions:

Lots of exercise. Lots of fresh air. A well balanced (not gold plated) diet. No vet visits unless something is seriously wrong. Most vets are simply running a business.

As an aside ... Different lineages / different temperaments ... I don’t believe in this. 99% of dogs will become what “you” make them. The only deciding factor: How much time are you willing to invest?
