Feedbacks from readers of this thread about the direction this thread should take. In total 31 e-mails were received. I'm going to summarize according to the opinion breakout, some highlight comments, and a consensus list of how we can make this thread even better. Result in - Don't Split This Thread Up! Out of 31 responses, 23 say they want to keep all discussions in one thread - this very one. Five say we should spin things off, especially TA. Three are non-commitals.Selected Comment Highlights - "The best thread on SI" - hear this over and over again! - Want to "lean more toward discussion" - "TA needs to be broken up with a little humor" - "Just skip them" - "Don't change a thing" - "I read All" - "A place to learn TA" - "Even more messages to read if split" - "When push come to shove, kick TA out" - If it doesn't work out, "put TA back" - 3 boards (TA, FA and Chit-chat) - Afraid this thread may turn into "multitude of voices with no direction" - "OSX ticker watch" - Want to remind regulars to "not lock occasional posters out" - "TA got too thick" - A new symbol - OPS "(Obsessive Posting Syndrome)" - TA for free - "strength of the thread" - When stocks tank in a downthrend, "TA talks can bolster confidence" Net, we should keep this thread going as it is. Too many people read it. Too many people love it. However, there are many suggestions to how we can further improve this thread. The exponential growth of the number of messages posted is mentioned a lot. Many don't find this to be a hassle today, but it can be a concern if 100 posts/day turns into 400 posts/day in a couple of months. It is clear the strength of this thread is the diversity of opinions with no excessive gloatings. If there is such a thing as an orderly democracy with no rules on self expression on the planet of internet, this thread comes close to it. Consensus Suggestions of How We Can Further Add Value 1. TA discussion is fine if the general topic is on the drillers. The Strictly Drillers name means exactly that. Teaching TA on this thread is fine as many people are open to learning TA. However, if one wants to go any deeper than its relevence to the drillers, move it to a relevent TA site on SI. 2. Provide some indication in the first sentence of each post on what one is going to discuss. If one is already up to the neck on TA and the post is going to be on TA again, one can just skip it. Sort of like a subject heading. 3. If it is a one sentence chit-chat like "NYNEX crude up $0.49! 10:34 EST", put <eom> at the end. 4. Use <off-topic> for personal, non-driller chit-chats or communication. 5. Exercise some restrain on the number of posts each day. Minimize those one liners like "I agree!", "Bought 500 FGII at 25", etc. 6. No one complains of too much humor - keep'em coming. 7. Use personal e-mails for personal communications. Just another click away for many of us. <I love to read e-mails from people, will respond when time permits> 8. There are more industry insiders on this thread than just the Big Dog. People want to learn more about the industry as a whole, this includes new technology or even some aspects of the drilling process. People want to get as close as possible to the pulse of the business without actually standing next to the rigs. 9. For the regulars, give some space to the occasional posters. This thread is as much about education as information sharing as bonding. 10. Keep it going. Encourage all lurkers to come out. If no one replies to your question, post again and yell louder. There are many lurkers who don't post because they did not want to pay the entry fee for SI. Someone mentioned the fee is as high as $200! However, they read this thread diligently (hopefully not religiously)! This is new to me. I've been a member for more than 1 1/2 years now and I did not have to pay a penny to SI. Opps, maybe I shouldn't say it here. I personally believe this is the best thread on SI. I decided to walk through the Yahoo message board this afternoon and saw almost every driller covered there. But there is really no meat in the messages compared to this thread. We are truely all-in-one. Congratulation everyone.
