Hi Iso....Just some rambling.....

Staying nibble....Still got the eight ounce gloves on....Sticking & moving....

My Natural Resource + related stocks......All these were bought in 3Q & 4Q (or had shares added to them)......Already sold them.....Making the tax man happy......

Took short term gains out of these.....Would like to own a few of these as long term investments.....Believe now is not the time to make that commitment...

TETY.ST

NHYDY

EGY bought & sold twice

CE2.DE

VBK.DE sold today

TNK

NAT

HAFNIA.OL

OET.OL sold today

PXT.TO

AR

TALO

WAAS bought out by Culligan Water.....so I sold

------------------------------------------------------------

Took most of my losses in Q1, took a bit over $6K in losses....Portfolio housekeeping...

Took some short term Q3/Q4 losses in these companies.....

DHT sold today, largest loss from Q4 (-$533)

WTTR Bought end of 2Q sold in Q3 (-$498)

NTS.OL Bought Q1, sold Q3 (-$181)

DEZ.DE Mistake....Should never have bought....like the company....but bad time to buy....(-$151)

----------------------------------------------------------

Recent buys/adds from Q3/Q4 & Q1 2020 that I will not hesitate to sell if conditions warrant that action....

NKR.OL

GASNY Would really love to keep it + add shares....

FORTUM.HE Would really love to keep it + add shares....

AGLXY Would really love to keep it + add shares....

ACA Added shares in Q3 + Would really love to keep it + add shares.....

NVT Plenty of funds hold this outfit.....Thought I would start a small position...

I have a few more in the in this category, but they are in tech and retail so will not list here...

--------------------------------------------------------

>>>This isn't the same market in which our parents made their money thought many are yet to get the message.<<<

I'm handling risk by not holding many of these companies longer term.....I have been mostly taking gains since June of 2016....Keeping plenty of dry powder....Patience as a buying tool.....Take the gain, add company to tracking folder....

Making many smaller bets + taking the gains....Limit Losses / ***Rule #1 "Do not be afraid to sell".....

Selling = Playing defense....has served me very well...

Should the markets correct....I hope to start a few more "Buy & Hold" positions....

The only positions that have made it on to my "I would like to own longer term / add to core positions" in 2018 & 2019 are....

KNOP, HMLP, PL.TO, ASA-ME.OL

Ya'll know I been a sayin' it. Sayin' it for years here and on other SI boards:

ALWAYS trade with protective sell stops. Job One is to protect capital. Then, come back to fight another day.

"Mental stops" because if you enter order(s) with a MM, he WILL run those during a downtrend, especially one as strong as we've seen in NG stocks for all but that bounce I called in Oct for later in the 4th qtr. Learned to use stops, the hard way, many decades ago folks. To do that? You have to admit you're wrong. Yes, that's hard. But refusal to do it is #1 reason most amateur traders make far less over a lifetime than even an average pro.

Like my old mentor repeatedly told me, "You have leave your ego in the cloakroom before you step onto the trading floor." Admit your wrong and cut a loss before it eats your capital! Stocks can always go lower, AWA higher, than you think because there's always either company specific or sector specific factors that never surface in the news until AFTER the move is over!

Getting tough on long traders, who refuse to use stops:

marketwatch.com

Was hi 4s in early Jan when stops should already have been in place.

marketwatch.com

Secondary hi in 4.80s on Jan 10th

marketwatch.com

Secondary hi on 12/31 @ 10.90

And yes, even ECA. At climactic phase of any long term primary down trend there's no place to hide

marketwatch.com

Secondary hi @ 4.90, Jan 6th.

Also per many posts: Am following another piece of my own advice. Stay in cash waiting for confirmed bottom. No sign of that yet.

Iso

Cleaning my desktop, a Gem

Foreign news sources reports President Trump as saying:

Iraq should brace itself for sanctions that'll make the ones placed on Iran look pale in comparison if it kicks out the US troops without first covering the costs the US spent on its airbase there, US President Donald Trump said.

We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build, long before my time. We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it,"

Trump told reporters on board of the Air Force One on Sunday. The punitive measures that the US is ready to slap on its supposed ally in the fight against the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) will be even harsher than the crippling sanctions already in effect against Tehran, the US leader said.

"If they do ask us to leave, if we don’t do it in a very friendly basis, we will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”

Trump’s dire warning to Iraq comes after Iraqi MPs passed a resolution, championed by the country’s caretaker prime minister, and asking the Iraqi government to expel foreign troops by cancelling a request for military assistance from the US-led coalition. ============

Nader Hashemi, the Director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Denver told Al Jazeera Trump's comments were "borderline insane" and a cause for concern.

"This is someone who is completely surrounded by war hawks, is driven by his ego and is in a re-election campaign," Hashemi said. "I think he's calculating that this type of tough rhetoric plays well with his domestic base."
