Gabriel, I think Dell will actually have growth in asia although I don't know how much and we may get up to 20% in the Americas but I am using an overall revenues growth of 15%.

I am expecting some margin improvements as well so something in the range of .82-.90 should be fine.

:o)

Gabriel, I tried your method of calculating 4th quarter unit sales for Dell and got some lower numbers than you.

Q1-(.25 x 2.588 Billion)/2700= 239,630 units
Q2-(.23 x 2.814 Billion)/2700= 239,711 units
Q3-(.23 x 3.188 Billion)/2625= 279,330 units
Q4- Total-Q1,Q2,Q3= 366,529 units

European unit sales for 1997= 19.4 million x .058= 1,125,200 units

Still a healthy number!

Note: The currency variation may throw this method off. It would have the effect of altering the unit price thus throwing the whole calculation off.

IDC data or another source should be more reliable.

What was your source?

Pat

P.S. If I would of thought about the potential problem with this method earlier I could have saved us both some time!

Gabriel: Your assumptions based on available data seems somewhat accurate, though I am not quite sure how accurate. Perhaps Patrick or Jim can give you the exact numbers, as they seem to be well versed in this sort of thing.

Gabriel,

Dell computer has the business leadership and winning formula for prosperity well into the next century. This company is one of my core holdings for the long term and in my opinion is an excellent company to be in anyones portfolio.
I would also recommend Intel and would like to invite you to drop by the" Intel Strategy for Achieving Wealth and off topic" thread to chat and share your investing experience with many of my friends. Thank you and have a nice Sunday

Gabriel, here is 4th quarter data for Dell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By contrast, Compaq's share grew 52 percent from the 1997 fourth quarter versus the final quarter of 1996 and Dell grew 66 percent during the same period, IDC said.

canoe.ca

From this source Dell sold 891,000 units in Q4/96 therefore we have 1.66 x 891,000= 1,479,060 units.

idcresearch.com

ASP~2550= 3.772 Billion in revenue.
