Didn't think it was a plug - "I think everyone who looks at MPC should also look at PSX and see what suites them better."

"For someone with a more LT focus, I think PSX is the better deal" I think talking the energy components only,
that's probably true, but I believe MPC value may become more evident with the spin off. Be interesting to see
the dividend developments after the deal.

Of course, it is the market, so maybe there is no spin off:

From their Thursday conference call: "In Retail, our team is making good progress on the Speedway
separation, while continuing to identify opportunities to grow merchandise margin through
store conversions and remodels.

Then Friday from Bloomberg:

"Marathon Petroleum (NYSE: MPC) is exploring a sale of its Speedway gas station business, which has been valued at $15B-$18B including debt as a stand-alone company"

Marathon has said it would seek to spin off the retailer, but the business has drawn interest from potential buyers, according to the report."

I'd much prefer the spin.

It is noteworthy that most of the miss (but not all) was due to higher refinery turnaround activity, which depressed their refining earnings.

The turnarounds are scheduled many months in advance, so it's odd for them to cause a surprise miss.

Do you mean the turnaround took longer than expected due to finding problems, or something like that?
