I wonder why some cases are mild, others deadly. Are the usual suspects (elderly, immuno-suppressed, etc.) significantly more at risk or is there something else at play? Many factors are at play. Besides the usual suspects that you listed, much depends on the character of the virus. Some of them tend to kill younger people with healthy immune systems - the immune overreaction itself may be fatal. Cases like that whistleblower doctor in Hubei, apparently a healthy young man - are of concern. The virus will also keep changing as it travels through the community. Secondary (bacterial) infections (and organ failures, which are often temporary) - and how they’re managed - is another key factor. Why are many cases very mild, or even asymptomatic? No one really knows. The Spanish flu of 1918-19... it still keeps medical people nervous.
