"But Jim, let's say you are absolutely correct, that his privacy has been invaded. How do you think the crisis should be handled? Do you think he can effectively lead the country? What would the best solution be for America as a whole?"

First, not to pick on your sentence but using it.. ".. that HIS privacy has been invaded." If the US legal system can take down a sitting President by a perjury charge involving adult-adult sexual conduct outside the charge of his office, then the door is OPEN TO ALL OF US BEING SIMILARLY INVESTIGATED AND PROSECUTED. This is not the legal precedent we want in the American system of justice in any way, shape or form. This road is VERY DANGEROUS...

The best solution for America as a whole is for Starr to find a way out of this disaster, by declaring the Tripp tapes an illegal recording that led to their illegally sending her out to retape.

Regarding the President's office for all those who will hold it in the future... I don't believe that just ANY perjury on any issue or incident is grounds for impeachment. If a President lied about flushing his goldfish down the toilet would that lead to an impeachment? There has to be a line drawn on content, not just IF ANY lie of ANY KIND can be found.

Will this hurt America.. absolutely not. Our moral schizophrenia is a disaster and is a world embarassment. Perhaps this case can lead to a positive understanding and protection of privacy from the state while the public says enough to the blatant stupidity of shock headlines. Our "responsible" news gathering services have turned themselves into pulp-press tabloids.

This is no different than what we all found so disgusting with the paparazi assault on Diana.
