Rod,

re: "His arguments, stupid or otherwise, provide a meaningful backdrop".

AMD's stock price dropped $30 a share, and Intel's stock price dropped $30 a share. So what. It had everything to do with poor yields on 233MHz and that issue has been resolved. AMD has put their best engineers in Fab25 to get the 0.25u process up and running and I believe they will be successful. The K6-3D and K6-3D+ will begin shipping in Q298 and AMD will once again be gaining ground on Intel. It will not happen overnight, but AMD is gaining ground.

AMD has had to battle with Intel since 1985 when they decided to abandon their 2nd source agreement with AMD. And when AMD won the right to compete in the courts, they were nearly 2 years behind Intel. AMD has cut into that lead significantly, and will hopefully catch up in 1998. Then we will have a competitive PC market which will be good for everyone. Even people like you, Yousef, and Paul Engel will benefit from competition. Maybe then you'll understand.
