You make a good point, but AT&T didn't make the commitment to correcting the problems themself, probably due to the cost, and released the code to the universities to get the 'horsepower' to do the job. Now AT&T is trying to get 'control' again since most of the problems have been solved. You notice that I say 'MOST' since some of the 'hacking' (and successful too!) has been done into supposidly 'secure' systems. (Unless it is real bad, we don't hear about it, but it does occur) It sure is a 'commercial' system now!

Boppin' Bill, on the other hand, has at his disposal a ton of 'cash' to throw at the problem. He'll just send out the 'boys' to recruit the best and brightest, and 'hook' them up to work the problem. A little guidance from 'the old ones' and who wouldn't want to be on the team that 'finally' gets 'er done?

Just looks like a 'blip' on the road, to me! (Probably a couple of years though!)
