The DEC decision came from Colorado Springs and MA. There were no california labs involved. Compaq has a very low price per port threshold and switches in that price range are not et available.

As far as Sun, not Andreas or Bill get's to influence the decision, and Sun will be delaying a switched implementation for awhile from what I've heard.
