I wasn't going to pick on any particular religion .......

for the word means binding your soul to the divine , and they all say the same things to move you from one space into another. In Christianity, the line that comes to mind when I think of being awake is from the parable of ten virgins. Everybody loves a good virgin story so this is easy to remember. :)

It's from Matthew. I'll summarize it as something like "be like a lamp and always keep your oil burning .......therefore stay alert, because you do not know the day or the hour."

I cannot pretend to know what Matthew was talking about. But, if everything in me tries to put it all together, it reinforces the idea of staying awake. Paying attention. All the time. Not easy, in the world.

The hard part is to get to know just "who" is paying attention. Who?

Ultimately, if we do this, your and my answer will be "nobody". The capacity for attention (consciousness) pays attention.
