Hi Rainier, ever heard of the "cells method?" I'll post more when I learn more about it, but in the interim, here's a couple references:

"Analyzing indicators with the Cells Method", TASC Vol 7 #3 p73-75

"The encyclopedia of technical market indicators" ISBN 1556230494, esp p50-60

Briefly, it's an alternative to the standard "signal-based" indicator testing. It's based on "cells" or ranges of time on the chart. It focusses directly on the indicator's ability to forecast rather than the profitability of trading signals derived from the indicator (which there are a zillion possible test cases to try for each indicator). Also, it evaluates its predictive capabilities over the entire range of values, rather than just relative to a signal point. One more interesting point is that no buy/sell rules need to be defined (and redefined) for the cells method.
