just metaphorically beating the war drum warning on your desk with a fist?
Our system was built on metaphorical warfare through an imperfect democratic self-improving process.

Seven score and fifteen years ago there was a bloody civil war. It was followed with the assassination of the progressive Republican leader who reached out his hand in (Marianne Williamson-esque) forgiveness and unity, for moving forward from the abyss.

For us who remember; we have lived through demagogues on the far left and right who promoted prepping... for new violence and revolution if necessary to achieve their ends. Or non-metaphorical religious mass suicide by poison kool-aid, preceding the gun violence of Waco.

The metaphorical beating is preferred, no matter how much it metaphorically stinks in it's process.

I also worry because the stockpiled assault rifles and ammo are not just dueling words. I can't be ignored.

But hope.springs.eternal. We are one capable species, presently on one planet.

We need to evolve and the preferred path is sometimes ugly (and always in need of weeding) precious democracy.

elplovo,
I should have avoid making reference to open warfare--CO gave a good response to the issue.

I live in Texas where citizens here have the largest ownership of guns in the country.

In recent weeks the federal agency who handles the registration of guns purchases indicate they had been flood with about 1.5 million registrations request.

A recent poll indicated that 65% of Republican voters think the news media is offering fake news articles in an attempt to defeat Trump. 65%--pure loonies!

These are the people who are buying guns as they think war is their only solution to the problem. A couple weeks ago, my brother called, in a tizzy, because he heard that the Mississippi National Guard had been called to duty---marshal law was coming! I ask him where he heard this information--he said a friend told him. I said then if the guard had been activated an was happening---it would be on the "fake news" shows --I told him to check any real source and call be back if it was happening. He called a few days later to talk about the weather...……….and his two dogs! No mention of the NG manning road blocks and checking IDs of citizens!
