Arthur, one has to think in terms of populations of people. One cannot look at the "outliars", the exceptions, like Thomas Sowell, or Lindzen with regard to global warming, one has to look at the majority. E.g. there is a PEW poll that shows that 51% of scientists call themselves liberal and 80% lean Democratic and only 6% are Republicans. Now I am sure that difference is statistically significant which means for some reason by far most scientists are Democrats i.e it is not random. So one has to ask, why? There is a reason, or reasons and I would argue it is their high level of education i.e. they are able to discern the difference between the two parties and they do not like the Republicans. If one wants to test e.g. if education makes one smarter the way to do it, as I am sure you know, is to get two homogeneous "populations of people. Then educate one population, but not the other and set up criteria.Then apply a simple t test or analysis of variance and see what it says. Criteria: One could look and see if the educated group e.g. did better on intelligence tests like the SAT or Stanford Binet than the non educated group. If it is at the .05, .01, or .001 level of confidence than one would reject the Null hypothesis (not due to random). I am simply making the argument we must improve our educational system and especially for the poor. E.g. one of the best ways to combat income inequality is to provide free pre school for every kid in the country . That one program would help the poor sooo much. And the best way to help the country is to provide free education through a PHD program. The more educated our society , the more humane we will become because clowns like Trump and ,most Republicans cannot fool the people and get elected. Cheers
