This is a perspective that I certainly appreciate and know to be true. If you know something to be going up, which you can reasonably be sure of in case of a broad index or a few several good companies, then you can and should ignore the daily trading and focus on business conditions over the next 2 - 5 years. This is what Buffet does, and it works...and really, any retail investor can do since they won't be competing with professional traders and fund managers and therefore will have a good chance of beating the market. It's also what Peter Lynch advocated in his book.
