It sounds to me as though your grades and education were pretty damn good. As far as MENSA is concerned, I was invited to join many years ago (I declined) and I have a few friends that were in the organization, but I also know a few people who were in it that were clueless about life.

You mention that you had dinner with Friedman's son. I'm sure that was interesting. My first introduction to a technology capitalist was at a dinner I attended with other members of my University's Student Senate (I was a member of the student senate during my junior year in undergrad). The guest was this man and the seating arrangement put me at his right shoulder. That this man would later become the Ambassador to the Soviet Union made the night even more memorable to a political junkie like me. . en.wikipedia.org. It was a great experience
