actually this is bad for ADSL. BA's plan is to build out a FTTN fiber network and then use VDSL or cable-modem-like units to get into the home, obsoleting the copper plant. the key is of course getting the fiber network exempted from the Telecom Act, which should be possible as i read the Act and the Ninth Circuit decision last year. BA will milk the cash cow (copper plant) in the near term with ADSL but its plans are to close out local competition within five-ten years by going fiber. i don't expect BA to invest a lot in beefing up their copper infrastructure.
