I saw that meme too but pointed out it was false because Trump raised personal taxes in the states that pay most of the taxes by eliminating many/most our deductions.

Again acting more like a Democrat, Trump put tariffs on imports while cutting taxes on corporations. The idea is if you build it here you save the tariff/tax and can compete better with low wage countries. You also hire workers who pay taxes so that helps increase tax revenue.

The trouble is he acts more like a Republican with huge increases to war making rather than national defense against a pandemic attack that could kill hundreds of thousands on our own shore. THAT was expensive and caused the deficit to soar despite rising tax revenue.

The debt exploding under the GOP has been true a long time. It is a masterful PR campaign that makes some people think that they are fiscally responsible and conservative, because that enables them to transfer the burden of taxes from the elite, now, to the masses, later, through the massive increase in debt.

This article was pre-Obama, but it hasn't really changed since this Austrian economics think tank put this out:
