dec has the high end servers, plus the cheap 64 bit chips and intel chips,
plus the service and support, plus high end computers that could run a 50 billlion dollar corp.
the dec's also cluster and have for decades.
it would allow dell to say, we can supply everything to a FORD.
this gives them the super high margin stuff to that lets them lower prices even more on pcs.
long term dell has to address this
