It took three years to get rid of the Jerusalem artichokes after I took over my current garden. I would definitely put in a confined bed like you have to do with mint.

While you guys have been freezing we have been setting high temperature records out here on the Left Coast.

It has been difficult sourcing seedlings from my usual sources so I was very pleased when I got to the Farmers Market Saturday to see my favorite tomato grower and vegetable grower out with a full selection. I am pretty well full up now except for some more basil. (And a bonus; old farts like me are getting priority entrance if we get there early.)

BTW, a few years ago I had more basil plants than pots so on impulse stuck some around the south facing rim of my tomato pots, resulting in the basil I had ever grown, sometimes overtopping the tomato plants, so needless to say I am continuing the practice.

The peas are up and I continue to plant beans. I will finish putting in the gai lan and swiss chard seedlings today since the rest of the week will be cooler and showery, perfect for getting seedlings settled in.

Also this weekend I finished turning over and chopping up the giant pile of weeds I collected last fall. It will turn to new soil in no time.
