From the perspective of a threat like this its opinion. Even scientifically incorrect opinions would just be another opinion. But the science isn't nearly as established in this case as you think it is. Its reasonable to believe you get some protection from wearing a mask, its much more so that you are less likely to pass the disease on if your the one who has it, but it isn't a scientifically established idea to the extent that any other opinion is somehow confirmed false. There have been studies showing very little effect from masks, so the science supports both sides of the issue. So the idea that there isn't significant protection from mask simply isn't fantasy. I don't think its a correct idea but lots of ideas that are wrong or that I think are wrong are not fantastical.

And the way science works itself is to examine data and theories not to project something as the unquestionable truth which can not be challenged. Or at least that's the way its supposed to work.
