Craig,

The performance of the cacheless PII-266 is not faster than a P55C-200Mhz or M2-PR166.

I think Intel is looking to do the following...all costs saving measures.
1. Hardwire the cachless PII to a motherboard
2. Eliminate L2 cache saves $20
3. Eliminate the cartridge, use bare chip. Saves $20.
That $40 savings brings the chip to maybe $60 cost on .35u. Maybe less on .25...$40?
Offer a slot for L2 cache on the motherboard. Allow Compaq to sell it for $50. Sell it to Compaq.

Could they also develop a multifunction sister chip like the GXs that would address audio and video in a manner to increase bus speed up over 100MZ?

Perhaps the cacheless PII will have a slightly bigger L1 cache? That will really kill AMD and Cyrix.
