Craig,

The differently quoted prices on the cacheless PII-266 indicates that Intel is not sure how to price it right as you said. If the cacheless PII-266 sell well, it is going to hurt Intel ASP and earning than AMD/Cyrix could do.

MediaGXm is good enough to compete with the cacheless PII-266 for most users. Intel is shooting after the fast moving target.

Craig,

we installed Windows 98 on an NEC Direction SPL 300, a 300-MHz Pentium II machine with 64MB of RAM and a FAT16-formatted disk.

On our tests, application launch times decreased: Word's launch time fell from 5 seconds to 2, Excel's from 3 to 2, Access's from 4 to 2, and Navigator's from 6 to 5.

Is it true that it takes PII-300 5 seconds to launch Word97? My M2-166Mhz on T2P4 83Mhz bus could launch Word97 in less than 3 seconds and reload it in less than half second.
