This was the equipment I used to cover the protest: The times, my friend, how they have changed. And I don't have the wire story either, printed on paper, ink faded long gone. Tape audio gone too...now they send kid reporters out as multi-media journalists, armed with a smartphone. It would be tougher now, I think. television news and "journalism" at the local level here in NM has always been rank amateur and awful. i've always blamed it on over-capitalization... they focus more on selling "eyeballs" to sponsors than selling news and information to viewers. youtube and social media has finally begun to overtake it with more depth and professionalism while also serving their sponsors more efficiently with more focused/targeted "eyeballs". just like our government's obsolescent systems and old practices... when the usefulness of the old fades, the people find a way to get what they need and want in newer, better and more efficient ways. the information age is awakening us. viva la evolution. i still believe the best journalism comes from the non-profit and public sector. you follow this more closely than most with your focus on media and journalism so i'm sure you have better insight on where we are NOW and where we're headed than i do. thanks for what you do and share here on SI. i love browsing your media thread. makes it easier for me to keep up on the media industry and journalism news. i'm not investing in the markets anymore but i still glean a lot of useful information from the stories you post.
