To all: Some insight into the potential demand for G. Merrill Lynch projected 1998 subscriber levels for I at 160,000 voice customers. They recently announced a contract with the U.S. military for a gateway with a capacity of 120,000 (currently only requesting 2,000 voice terminals). In addition gateway operators have ordered 250,000 voice terminals and 100,000 paging terminals on anticipated demand. The demand for this type of service is clearly burying the consensus projections. Everyone on this and the Loral and I* threads have been aware of the potential for some time, however, the general public and Wall Street may now become more enlightened.
