Looks like HK just lost it's special status. In about three months

the guy who made HK lose it's special status is more than likely going to lose his special status. If I had to guess, I'd say that loss is going to be harder on him than he expects.

Time will tell.

Jay, I’m very concerned about reports regarding flooding in China. A huge number of rivers have flooded and there is damage in many places.

What worries me most, however, is the Three Gorges Dam. My information is sketchy, probably full of lies and misinformation, but one thing that seems consistent is that 38 million persons have been evacuated. That’s an enormous number, even for China. Last year, photography showed some warping of the Dam, but the Government said it was designed-in ‘elasticity.’ Maybe, maybe not.

Anyway, evacuating 38 million people suggests a lack of confidence in the Dam’s integrity. It means moving a city the size of one and one half the population of Mexico City out of harm’s way. That would require a huge effort, especially in this Covid environment.

Any insights?

I fear that if the Dam breaks, there will be an unparalleled natural disaster. The ramifications are almost too dire to consider. Loss of life would be enormous, economic consequences globally significant, etc.

What say you?
