7/31/2020 Contest update
(Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
The FAANG’s devoured most of investor’s cash, leaving little for biotechs. So another weak week for the sector, with many Contest portfolio stocks especially unpopular.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 3.76% YTD (vs. up 8.41% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 13.70% YTD (vs. up 15.33% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 16.83% YTD (vs. up 19.98% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 19.12% YTD (vs. up 14.88% YTD a week ago).
FILO’s portfolio, up 118.31% YTD, lost ground but still held on to first place, with JBOG’s portfolio, up 99.51% YTD, remaining in second place. Yet another switch for third place with BIOSCI’s’s portfolio, up 55.55% YTD, taking the slot.
At Friday's close, 25 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 14 beating the NBI and the same 14 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 22.21% with the YTD median still negative showing a loss of -3.04%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & relaxed first August weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
