20 years is a long time. The sector has been through a lot of changes. As far as Micron is concerned, it is amazing that they survived the long cold winter that the sector went through in the first 13 years or so of the 12st century. They were competing against companies that were established and supported by countries as "essential". S.K. still treats Hynix and Samsung like that, although much less so than before. Hynix was bailed out twice in about 5 years after the 2008 depression. It was only after Japan threw in the towel with Elpida and allowed it to be sold to Micron that the sector became rationalized. If the Chinese ever actually get their DRAM act together, they might destroy it again. But that won't be Micron's fault any more than the way the sector was in the early part of the century was their fault. They are doing what they can by using their DRAM and NAND to produce more high value products instead of selling raw chips.
