<<The only way CSCO is going to reach the top spot in remote access concentrators by the end of the year will be by aquiring Ascend. >>

I agree with this. The only other way to become number one is to have a superior product that has already been certified and beta'd and is selling like hotcakes. The 5300 isn't it.

CSCO has bought technology and market share more than they have innovated it. Buying COMS doesn't do it either.

I also don't think that CSCO will buy ASND. I think they are just talking thru their hat.

The only way CSCO is going to reach the top spot in remote access concentrators by the end of the year will be by aquiring Ascend. I know you recall that the last big rumor run-up (after LU, NT, IBM, BAY,& LU again) had Cisco as the buyer. Rumor had it that the place (Ascend, Alameda) was buzzing that Cisco was going to aquire them.

Larry,

1. I've missed your posts.

2. Now that (the above) is a very interesting thought. I had forgotten about the CSCO rumor abuzz in Alameda.

3. Maverick, what do you think? Is this a fit? Or is there overlap with Stratacom, etc.?

That has to be one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen in a while. Why would Cisco want to purchase ASND? CSCO has strong ATM switching (note the recent US West win - more to come?), CSCO owns the router business, and Cisco is gaining market share quickly in the RAS market. So, what would be the justification?
