There are many intelligent trump supporters... and that is the weird thing...

There are stupid people on both sides.

What really distinguishes trump's people is the ease with which they are brainwashed.

For example Herman Cain who claimed Covid was a hoax and refused to wear a mask at trump's pathetic rally.

He died of course from Covid two weeks later. It used to confuse me how smart people could be convinced of absurdities so easily... even smart people like Ben Carson. But Adam Curtis the genious documentarian finally clued me in...

the predisposition to propaganda and brainwashing is genetic. How else would one explain the rise of Adolf Hitler?

Ben's not dumb obviously... but there's something wrong with his brain. This statement is the least of the absurd things he believes.

Trump DID refer to neo-Nazis as “fine people” ar Charlottesville. That's why he said 'both sides". They were one of the sides.

If true, why do 59% of Democrats believe that Trump referred to neo-Nazis as “fine people” ar Charlottesville, when it never happened? Biden said it did. Lie. CNN last night claimed Trump said it. Lie. Anyone who listens to Trump's words can clearly hear he never said it. He pointed out there were fine people on both sides which there were, but specifically excluded neo-Nazis. Specifically.

If you parse his words, you can find at least plausible deniability. There, I said it.

Since we all know that Trump doesn't do parse, and in context of other things he says and does, and then there's the question of whether those who were protesting the removal of the statues, however quietly, are very fine people, it is not surprising that the takeaway would be what it has come to be.

I would call Biden's charge understandable overstatement. I, personally, would not assert that charge.
