They may be customers in one sense or another but they are not exclusively buyers of Sybase. For example Sun Microsystems is standardized on Oracle applications which run the Oracle database.

The majority of those large accounts listed run either SAP or Oracle Packaged Applications. That mean there are Oracle or Informix consultants on site and not Sybase consultants tuning the database, replicating data to their own data warehouses and talking to IS managers about future purchases of databases. This continues to be the biggest blunder Sybase has made.
