Who are you to determine what major is useful or a waste? The purpose of college is to learn how to think. Once one learns how to think, then one can think oneself into any good profession. And one can learn how to think by choosing any major. I am referring to form( thinking) not content.

Honestly, Ten, you are coming across as a totalitarian fascist libertarian pig who wants to turn 4 year schools into vocational schools.

Sounds like you've regressed quite a bit since you left Cornell. That's what libertarianism can do to one.

The first election debate leaves a lasting impression on most voters, especially in regard to the challenger. This often has little to do with substance, but with showing if the challenger is strong enough and competent enough as he stands side by side with the President. Markets, of course, are interested in substance. For example, Biden is open to another lockdown if the virus makes a strong resurgence. Trump, of course, is open to pursuing a "herd immunity strategy." And there is, of course, the China issue. How to deal with China? And there are the questions of taxes, healthcare, infrastructure, technology, climate change, etc.

The public already knows what Trump is all about. They have seen him in action for 4 years. The election debates are primarily a forum for the challenger. If Biden passes the test, your boy is dead in the water and a Democratic big time sweep is coming. To Joe 6 Pack, passing primarily means addressing his concerns and coming across as strong, but gentle and compassionate, in contrast to Trump.

Black studies, women studies and of course, blessed Philosophy are great majors to pursue in college. Of course, from a totalitarian libertarian fascist point of view, such majors are poison because they don't pay homage to the god of capitalism: Money.
But upon further thought, these majors provide the foundation of healthy, vital existence and give one the foundation to become a great success in life.
Given the racism, sexism and rampant mindlessness in American society, such majors provide a lasting cathartic effect on the student, which enables him or her to provide a wonderful, caring and compassionate stance toward one's fellow human beings, which is important for success.
