I don't trust memories anymore, least of all my own. What I remember is that Cox was viewed as relatively independent. I will look for the book by White.

I remember reading about it at the time of his selection - there was great distress at his selection.

And I YOU saying only yesterday? the day before? that you were far too young to have been up for the Vietnam draft? Can't have it both ways, bucko.

I AM old enough to remember, and my recollection is that his selection, at the time applauded by Nixon, met with general approval.

And of course then Nixon booted them all out in the Saturday Night Massacre: Cox, Richardson, and Clarke.

But I'm probably getting a little ahead of you here...
